About Us

The Eluama Development Union (EDU) was formed in 1970 through the merger of the Eluama Literate Youth Association and Eluama Central Union. The primary objective of EDU is to foster unity, peace and promote socio-cultural development such as electricity, commerce, roads, water, education, health and other public (arena) infrastructure in Eluama, a town in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State.

Structure and Meetings

EDU holds conventions three times a year: Easter, August (Iriji), and December. Additionally, the union convenes monthly meetings across the globe, with the meeting week determined by each branch. EDU boasts OF 16 branches worldwide, These are:

6. Okigwe branch
7. Owerri branch
8. Lagos branch
9. Abakaliki branch
10. Abuja branch
11. Kaduna branch

There are other arms of Governance such as;

1. EDU Women’s Wing
2. EDU Youth Wing

And yet other development partners such as;

1. Eluama Elegant Daughters
2. Eluama Love Brothers Association
3. Eluama Believers Association

Eluama Development Union is governed by the President General and the convention is its highest decision making organ. Any decision(s) taken at any of the above mentioned conventions is said to be final and binding.

Eluama Development Union has had over 13 President Generals ever since it was conceived in 1970. A page will be dedicated to list names of former President Generals of Eluama Development Union.

It was in 2022 that, the name Eluama Development Union, World Wide was unanimously adopted by the general house during her August convention and ever since then, the union has been known and addressed as Eluama Development Union, Worldwide.

One of the early projects carried out by EDU was the construction of Eluama Town Hall which was started in 1972 and completed and commissioned in December, 1976 by the then former Commissioner for Local Government and Social Development (under Old Imo State), Rev Fr Dr Ifeanyi Anozia.

Another notable projects by Eluama Development Union was the construction of Eluama Secondary School which was started in February, 1977 and completed in 1978.

Eluama Development Union World Wide HAS grown from what it used to be to a global trade mark that it is now.

Since its inception, EDU has undertaken numerous significant projects in Eluama community, including:

– Building of Eluama Secondary School

– Electrification Project

– Eluama Health Centre

– Eluama Town Hall

– Eluama Ezumezu Centre

– Eluama Post Office

– Ahonta Market

– Annual Iriji Ceremony

– Publishing of a book “The Heritage of Eluama, Isuikwuato”. A compendium of the history and tradition of Eluama.
